Drag racing in Bremerton began in 1960, when the Handlers Car Club leased the Navy Airfield runway to run sanctioned drag races.
The Handlers have promoted drag racing there for over 60 years, making it one of the longest-running drag-racing operations in the Pacific Northwest.
The dragstrip has hosted NHRA Division 6 events, bracket racing, grudge nights, street-legal races, and junior dragster programs.
Bremerton Raceway's strip has always been runway-based, not a purpose-built concrete NHRA supertrack, but it is a major regional hub for grassroots drag racing.
The track has moved locations within the airfield property several times due to airport development and Navy land-use changes, but the dragstrip operations have continued.
It remains one of the few surviving legacy airfield dragstrips still operating in the U.S.
